It’s a good time to be Zendaya, newly minted Vogue cover girl and star of „Spider-Man: Homecoming,“ out on Friday. In the last few months, the 20-year-old multi-hyphenate has kept herself very busy on the publicity circuit, promoting the movie in wares ranging from well-established houses like Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph & Russo Couture to fledgling design darlings Sies Marjan and Jonathan Simkhai. Her latest, just in from Paris, comes via Viktor & Rolf’s Fall 2016 Couture collection and would’ve easily been deemed unwearable on anyone but her.
How, honestly, does Zendaya look so good — so naturally at ease — in a garment as voluminous and eccentric as the above? There’s certainly a lot happening; the deer illustration looks as if it was ripped from a rural Walmart’s hunting section, and there’s enough tulle to transform the skirt into a tutu fit for the New York City Ballet. But yet, it’s just another dress, another swath of fabric, for Zendaya, who looks as if she could wear this to the post office and be totally comfortable.
It helps, of course, that her makeup was kept dewy and natural — shout-out to that CoverGirl contract — while according to her Instagram, she didn’t do anything to style her hair at all. Accessories only included nude, pointed-toe Christian Louboutin pumps and barely there silver hoop earrings.
But then again, she looks just as fantastic in terry cloth — literally just two bath towels — as was revealed in her brand-new portrait from Mario Testino’s towel series.
We’re done trying to explain it. It’s time to appreciate her gift.
