It’s that time of year again, friends — the ever-popular festival season unofficially kicks off this Friday in Indio, California, when thousands of music fans from around the world will flock to the desert for Coachella. More than ever, fashion brands are scrambling to cash in on this culturally significant moment, whether through sponsored influencer trips and weekend-long pool parties, or through dedicated, festival-themed clothing collections and pop-up shops that are growing in popularity.
Coachella is the ultimate “see and be seen” event of the spring — the VIP area is jam-packed with celebrities, bloggers, models and random Instagram-famous hot people — so many attendees take great care when deciding what to wear to the event. However, festival season has spawned some unfortunate trends over the years that just won’t die, from tasteless cultural appropriation to bohemian accessory overkill. In fact, the Coachella uniform has become so specific that street style galleries of the event often contain dozens of women wearing a variation on the exact same outfit.
Wake up, sheeple! You don’t want to be another statistic, so Fashionista teamed up with our pals at HEED to put together this very important PSA on the dos and don’ts of getting dressed for Coachella. Pass it along to anyone you know with a penchant for crocheted crop tops, super-distressed denim shorts, floppy hats, oversized sunglasses, maxi skirts, flower crowns or Flash Tattoos — especially if they tend to wear them all at the same time. We’re here for you. Watch our powerful message in full above, and be sure to download the HEED app for even more festival fashion goodness.
