And while they’re all gorgeous, if you’re the kind of bride who’s looking for something cool, casual, and a little more ‘you’ for your big day, those styles certainly won’t be for you.
For fashion brides, it’s all about looking effortlessly undone, avoiding overworked looks and letting your natural tresses and personal style do the talking.

Ugh, we can’t choose a favourite!
Of course, for some of us, simply wearing your hair down or throwing it up in a messy bun might not seem fancy enough for the occasion, but add a gorgeous while dress, some killer jewellery, and a dash of confidence, and you, cool bride, can pull off whatever look you want in style!

It’s getting close.
As I type this with my freshly manied red nails (did you see our trip to Blush & Blow on Snapchat?), I’m just three weeks out from our wedding, and as you can imagine, I’m feeling ALL the emotions.
So I figured for today’s Real Bride Diary, I’d keep it light with a little beauty chatter, and share a little more about my hair, make-up and accessory plans for the wedding.
I don’t expect to look quite like this, but I am going for a similar colour for my flower crown and flowy waves for my hair.

– My current obsession: Trying to swap out nerves for excitement.
– Marko’s current obsession: He’s still blasting that wedding playlist!
– This week we’re mostly: Shopping for gifts for the people who’ve helped us along the way.
I don’t think we’ll look quite so cool, but we’re sure going to try!

So, I’m tying in my accessories with my hair and make-up post, because really for me (as with our wedding decor) my look is all about a vibe rather than having a certain lip colour or hair style.
And that vibe is a little glam and a lot boho, with relaxed waves, natural sunkissed make-up with dramatic eyes, and eclectic (unbridal) accessories.
As I said in my wedding dress shopping post, when I started planning my look I wanted it to be just a more put-together version of my everyday style.
Photo by Carly Brown via The Lane
While my inner bride is thoroughly channelled in the long white dress, when it comes to my shoes and jewellery, they’re the kind of things I’d wear any day of the week.
For my flower crown (which is something I have been known to wear to the pub of a Wednesday evening), I’m going with deep pink hues and lots of greenery. I want it to make a statement and not be too small, without looking too big or silly.
For my jewellery, I’m wearing my usual arsenal of assorted gold and rose gold rings, and I’ve bought the most gorgeous khaki green, beaded tassel earrings from J Crew (you can see them in the snap below).
My shoes are chunky suede lace-up sandals (fun fact: I’m breaking them in right now as I sit at my desk, but they’re actually pretty comfy!).
My face has been one of by biggest sources of wedding worry over the last year. That sounds a tad dramatic, but anyone who’s struggled with acne will agree with me, having bad skin that can seriously get you down and wreak havoc on your confidence.
So while I wanted a natural, dewy, sun-kissed look for the wedding, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pull it off when I needed so much coverage.
Luckily, after persisting with my GP, (trying about four different cocktails of creams and tablets), then visiting a dermatologist, and being incredibly strict with my skincare, I’m finally (mostly!) pimple free.
Now that could change when we fly home to get hitched, I only have to look at an airplane and I break out!
While I do have quite a bit of scarring left over, I’ve luckily found the amazing Cara at Brown Sugar in Dublin, where I’ll be getting my hair and make-up done on the morning of the wedding. (I way preferred the idea of going out to a salon rather than have the pros come to our hotel).
As a former sufferer of bad skin, she totally got my anguish and from my trial with her, I know she’s going to make me look and feel gorgeous on the day.
Below are some of the celebrities I’m hoping to channel with my make-up…
Adele and Ellie Goulding are my wedding beauty spirit celebrities!
My wedding day hair will be pretty straight forward. Down, wavy, done!
I have pretty long and quite straight hair, so I’ve long-since lamented the idea that my curls will last all day, but I’m hoping I can start with glamorous waves and maybe go to bed with at least beachy ones.
A girl can dream!

Beauty treatments are never really something I’ve indulged in. I do my own nails, I’m terrified of facials (on account of said acne!), I only get my hair cut every eight months or so, and my dry heels tend to be left in sinfully bad condition.
All that has changed over the last few months, and I’m now entirely addicted to visiting beauty salons.
A few snaps from Blush & Blow in London
Just yesterday I got a gorgeous Shellac mani (it was at Blush & Blow in London, it’s such a nice salon, the staff are awesome and they have the coolest bathrooms!), next week I’m booked into the hairdressers, and the week after that, I’ve eyebrow threading (I’ve been dedicated to growing my brows with Brow Bar’s growth oil!).
Luxury pedicures are my new favourite thing to do on a Sunday morning.
While it does feel a little indulgent, it’s been really nice to have an excuse to take time out, splash a little cash and look after myself. And while I may not have as many mani-pedis after the wedding, I’ll certainly be keeping up my newfound penchant for pro treatments.
Brides and grooms, you need to milk this time and thoroughly treat yourselves. I give you permission to pamper!
This whole look is entirely my vibe!

If you’d like to hear me wax on more about pre-wedding beauty, you should listen to me and Aleisha, from the Bridechilla Podcast, having lots of wedding chatter over facials and white wine!
Oh and if you’re wondering what I’ll be listening to as I get my hair and make-up done. This is it.

And while we’re still obsessed with it for DIY tutorials, decor ideas, and wedding dress spotting, Instagram is fast becoming our favourite photo resource for finding local vendors, swooning over engagement rings, and getting lots of beauty inspiration.
A few weeks ago, we shared a rundown of a few of our favourite Instagrammers to follow for hair tutorials, but when it came to Melbourne hairstylist, Vanessa Barney (aka @brides_by_vanessa_jane), we figured her work deserved a post all of its own!
Dress by Gwendolynne, Flowers by The Botanical Heart
Vanessa caught our eye on Instagram a few weeks back, with her #50in50 project.
Over 50 days she shared the most gorgeous bridal hairstyles, and instantly we were hooked on her beautiful braids, elegant updos, and pretty half-up-half-down styles.
Teaming up with photographer, Eleanor Landford, stylist, Chelsea Nieper, and model, Lidija (who’s giving us major hair envy BTW) along with a host of cool Australian designers, Vanessa created a feed that’s crammed with hair ideas for brides, bridesmaids and wedding guests, whatever their style.
So, as always when we discover something gorgeous, we just couldn’t keep it to ourselves! We got in touch with Vanessa and asked her to tell us more about the idea behind #50in50.
Scroll down to check out (and bookmark/pin/copy) her favourite styles, but first, let’s get some expert insights and pro tips on nailing your own gorgeous wedding day tresses from (the super talented!) Vanessa…
I came up with the #50in50 concept late last year. I wanted a way to showcase my work while creating a little excitement. I thought a new style everyday for 50 days would do that.
I did a lot of research looking for hairstyles that I liked and created a mood board. The styles really just evolved on the day, with the feel of the dresses, accessories and Lidia’s amazing hair. Number 1 is the crowd fave.
I feel soft undone hair and waves are the biggest trend at the moment. The majority of my clients will say ‘I don’t want my hair tight off my face I want softness, nothing too severe.’ My brides and bridesmaids like to see the wispy texture in their hair, as it keeps it soft.
When looking for hair styles try to look at photos that are the same colour as your hair. Blonde hair is always going to show up texture more while, dark hair will always look more glossy and shiny.
If just have dark hair and you want to see more texture consider having some lighter highlights scattered through your hair. Alternatively clip in hair extensions with highlights can used to add lightness.

While we’re a tad obsessed with the 30 second cooking ones, and the 90 second crafty ones, it has to be the hair tutorials that have us losing hours to watching mermaid braids, twisted upstyles, and curly blowdries on repeat.

While we’re all for flashing a little flesh, for most brides, feeling sexy on your wedding day, means something entirely different than showing some cleavage.
And if that sounds like you, we have bridal style expert (and BM regular) Charlotte Munro on hand today, with her pro tips on pulling together a look that will leave you feeling like one bombshell bride.
Scroll down to read her tips, along with advice on hair and make-up from Laura Anne, plus the gorgeous images they created together with Sanshine Photography (and a couple of our favourite subtly sexy looks from the S/S 2016 collections.)
This article is all about that highly controversial wedding phrase – feeling sexy on you wedding day; Who it is for, what’s it about, and how you can make it work for you on your big day.
I often work with brides who say to me that they want to look graceful, elegant and demure on their big day.
When we are at the bridal appointment, they choose dresses that they think match this description but when trying them on, they don’t have that happy look.
Instead they pull at the top, and fidget with the skirt and when we come out of their appointment and have a chat, tell me they didn’t like any of the dresses because they felt frumpy, old fashioned, uncomfortable, and not elegant or demure.
Dress by Grace Loves Lace
The word demure means different things to different people. The actual definition of demure is as follows –
1. of a woman or her behaviour – reserved, modest, and shy. “a demure little wife who sits at home minding the house”
Synonyms: Modest, unassuming, meek, mild, reserved, retiring, quiet, shy, bashful, diffident, reticent, timid, timorous, shrinking
Now I don’t know about you, but that seems pretty antiquated to me.
My vision of demure is more modern, elegant, beautiful and serene.
The word sexy can also mean lots of different things to different people. Say the word sexy in relation to a wedding and opinions start coming from every direction. Say ‘sexy wedding dress’ and I bet you automatically think of a see-through number with a neckline down to your belly button.
But just like demure, sexy can mean beautiful and elegant. Wedding dresses can be sexy without being revealing.
It’s all about the feeling, rather than looking sexy, you want to feel sexy on your wedding day, and that doesn’t mean an eyeful of cleavage, or a revealing thigh split to everyone.
Jumpsuit by Sophie Sarfati
Whether that feeling comes from being confident in what you wear underneath your dress, finding that pair of OMG shoes, or trying a daring smokey eye look, it doesn’t matter, you just have to find the sexy that’s right for you.
And just for the record, it is actually okay to feel sexy on your wedding day, people seem to think sexy and weddings don’t go together.
It’s your big day, you’re probably spending a lot of money on this one day, you should look however you want to look, and in my opinion you should definitely feel amazing, and feeling amazing usually includes a bit of sexy.
Your outfit isn’t limited to just the dress, sexy can be applied to shoes, lingerie, even accessories. Sexy shoes anyone?
The dress isn’t the be all and end all of your wedding day look, there are so many elements which could bring a touch of sexy to your outfit without looking like you are going out for a night on the town.
Dress by Grace Loves Lace
If your dress is more conservative, why not consider going a little bolder with your makeup?
Try that smokey eye you’ve always dreamed of, and red lipstick always adds a touch of intrigue.
Make-up artist Laura Anne can tell you all about the looks we created for our beautiful model, and give tips on how to make them work for you.
‘Sexy’ doesn’t always mean lots of black eye shadow, red lip stick and generally a face full of make-up.
Pick aspects of your regular makeup that you love and push it to the next level.
A classic red or a modern fiery orange lip teamed with a subtle un-done eye make-up can be incredible sexy and if you don’t wear a lot of eye makeup on a day to day basis, you will feel super comfortable and yourself at the same time.
If you are looking for that smoldering eye look, keep the rest of your makeup very simply to allow your eyes to pop without over-powering the face.
Hair down has to be the sexiest look but there are so many styles that you can choose from.
A sleek vintage wave, boho beachy or classic and smooth teamed with a simple twist on one side, a beautiful braid or simply just down with a gorgeous hair accessory, make the most out of your natural hair, leave it down and show it off!!
For ladies with finer hair, add some clip in hair extensions to really fill out the style. – Laura Anne.
Dress by Berta
Feeling sexy comes from feeling confident, and the best way to do that is to stay true to yourself.
Find a dress that fits your personality, don’t change who you are for other people – it’s your wedding, be you.
Some great tips, right? I’m always a fan of side-swept Hollywood waves and a punchy red lip (though killer heels and a smokey eye is a pretty hot look too!).

Photographed by Marilyn Bartman, and styled by Annika Noordzij of Wild at Heart Bridal Boutique, this shoot is a celebration of dreamy wedding dresses, beautiful hair styling, and stunning table decor, stationery and cake-making.
Whether you’re planning an undone updo, an aisle adorned in foliage or a luxurious naked bake, prepare to be both enchanted and inspired.
Scroll down to gush over this gorgeous shoot, but first up, read the storybook concept behind it, from Marilyn Bartman, and Annika Noordzij…
“But tell me darling, did the wind sweep you of your feet?
Did you finally get the chance, to dance along the light of day?”
Untameable love. The romance of a wilful and mysterious young woman, dressed in luxurious fabrics, fascinated with all that the world has to offer.
In the early morning light, she dances in the mist beneath the trees; she runs through the sand, just for the exciting feeling of it sweeping against her legs.
A fresh wind follows wherever she goes. She feels the urge to touch, smell and truly experience everything around her; the faded wallpaper of an old building, the subtle smell of a simple rose or her own breath turning into mist when it touches the cold windows.
She is one with this world, truly a part of its unique story that is infinite. Who could resist her?
So beautiful, right? It looks so romantic and timeless, but I love that they’ve tied in a few recent trends like white nail polish and cascading bouquets.
I love the table styling too for a cool winter wedding – I know summer is only upon us, but winter brides and grooms will be starting to plan their decor now.
Thanks so much to Marilyn Bartman, Annika Noordzij and the rest of these talented vendors for sharing their wedding inspiration with us.

While we couldn’t be in NYC in person this time (sobs into my very English cup of tea), we’ve still got the inside scoop on all the big trends, beautiful dresses and fabulous accessories, and every day this week, we’ll be treating you guys to one of our favourite collections.
So, we’re kicking things off with one of the most glorious bridal collections, one that thrills us every season with its luxe textures, divine jewellery, and dramatic designs.
And for Spring/Summer 2017, Marchesa certainly didn’t disappoint.
Sticking to the sun-drenched venue of Canoe Studios on the Hudson, where we saw their last collection in October, Marchesa designers, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, upped the ante with their latest showcase, with romantic florals, the softest tulles, and most glorious necklines.
My favourite thing about this collection though has to be all that decadent jewellery. Pearls, crystals, and tassels? I’m in love!
Scroll down to get a behind the scenes look of this incredible collection, but first up, read a bit more about the inspiration behind it…
Marchesa SS17 Bridal Collection is a journey through a regal, enchanted garden with flourishing rosebuds and blossoming florals emerging just as the morning sun rises.
Glistening crystals and pearls against sleek bodices and ethereal gowns are reminiscent of morning mist atop of petals in a wildflower meadow.
Springtime buds in rosy ombres and dip-dyed blushes are blooming in layered tiers and ruffles over silk organza. Lightweight tulles in sheer blush and nude tones are subtly placed beneath ball gowns.
Silk satin ribbons add a majestic touch to seductively cinched waists and revealing peek-a-boo cut-outs.
Ornate embroideries of 3D organza roses and hand-cut petals flourish over detachable skirts and peplums as French Chantilly and corded lace are gracefully set against plunging necklines.
So stunning! Just imagine wearing a gown like that for your big day. That jewellery is fabulous, and I love the soft, feminine touches across the collection, so beautiful.
Marchesa wedding dresses are priced from $ 10,600 (£7000), and available from stockists worldwide.
And that’s only the start of it, we’ll be sharing more collections throughout the week, so keep your eyes peeled for more breathtaking gowns from Bridal Fashion Week.
